Early Thoughts…
The year that our stories begin: 2188.
Here is a brief landscape of Earth leading up to that year:
Political nations still exist: The Unites States, Russia, China, etc. With some distinctions:
1. The United States saw a New Confederacy of states break off to form its own nation during the Second Civil War of 2024. The Confederacy is made up of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.
2. China has annexed North Korea to stabilize a rogue nation that nearly began World War III in 2040.
3. The United Kingdom has finally joined with the European Union to create a stronger block of nations in that area.
The space program in the U.S. was re-energized shortly after the end of the civil war when an asteroid side-swiped the Moon, partially knocking it into a new orbit, which wreaked havoc on Earth’s weather for weeks. With the event really underlining the potential dangers to the planet from space, the nation was galvanized to rebuild its space program. Russia and China followed suit, and then in 2091, they formed a combined organization to share technology and advance humankind’s presence in space. The organization was given the rather mundane name of Solar Navy.
Things really accelerated after that.
